About

The Alma Ethno Music Festival is an annual celebration that merges historical musical influences with modern performances, fostering a unique and vibrant atmosphere that promotes self-expression and unity through music.

Main goal

The main task is to create branding for the festival, including logo, fonts, colors, visual elements, ticket design, posters design, and to formalize everything into a style guide.

Challenges

1. To create a unique and unified visual style from scratch.
2. To ensure consistency of brand visuals across all platforms and materials.
3. To make the design flexible and adaptable to different formats and platforms, from printed materials to digital interfaces.

Design
Approach

I decided to focus on the minimalist style of the brand, taking into account the bright colors that reflect the concept of the festival. The main goal was to focus on the clarity of the design without visual noise. I also focused on the color palette, typography, grids and visual elements to make the design accessible to more people.

Research

Research

The visual research for the music festival branding includes the analysis of the current trends in the event design and a study of the preferences of the target audience in order to create a style that will effectively communicate with participants and reflect the spirit of the event. Competitors are also assessed to highlight unique aspects and offer innovative visual solutions.

References

1. Visual research was conducted using such websites: Behance, Dribbble, Awwwards, Mobbin, Uijar to find design examples, ideas, and trends.
2. The competitors' events were studied and their visual design elements were analyzed.
3, Current trends in design, especially branding, were analyzed to create a clean and appropriate design for the event.

Insights

From 50+ strong examples, 5 were selected that are characterized by high contrast, 3 primary colors, dark background and mosaic of visual elements.

Visual Design

Logo & Visual elements

When developing the logo, the concept of a mosaic of visual elements was immediately taken into account, so the name ALMA was presented as pieces of a visual puzzle, for further use in the design of tickets and a poster.

Colors

The main task in choosing the color palette was to select colors that contrast well with both light and dark backgrounds. 3 main and 2 additional colors were chosen that are associated with the character of the festival.

Fonts

I decided to maintain a smooth, readable style for the logo and used a similar fonts: for a header is museomoderno, for a subtitle and simple text is montserrat alternates.

Visual Design

Icons

Different variations of icons were created for use on social media or other online platforms, taking into account different situations where round and square shapes may be needed.

Ticket & Poster design

Design mockups were created for double-sided tickets, as well as for a poster with detailed information about the event, including a QR code.

Style guide

A 15-page style guide was created, including: Basic and Monochrome versions of the logo, Grid, Protective field, Logo on background, Logo on photo, Icons, Logo placement, visual elements, Color palette, Fonts, Prohibitions with detailed instructions on the correct use of branding rules.

Achievements

My role

1. I effectively used color, typography, and other visual elements to create an attractive and selling design to create a theme appropriate branding from scratch.
2. I expanded my grid knowledge and logo creation skills and improved nuances of the color usage and pairing while working on a project.
3. I have deepened my skills in applying branding not only to digital products, but also in creating mockups for physical items and printed materials.

Outcomes

1. I exceeded stakeholder expectations by creating a full style guide instead of a short instruction manual, creating a mosaic system of visual elements that expanded the possibilities and ways of using them in the future.
2. The design project is completely ready for further work with promotion by the marketing team.
